Walmart is rapidly rolling-out its Walmart Express stores in the US this year as part of its plans to develop a stronger presence in small format retailing. Not only is the format an effective competitor for dollar stores, drugstores and other grocery retailers, it has also been equipped with the retailer’s site-to-store capabilities. With this store also part of the retailer’s market eco-system test, this report also look at the benefits from being ‘tethered’ to the local Supercentre.

Earlier this year Walmart opened its first convenience store in the US, Walmart to Go. Featuring an eye-catching design, the store, combines elements of a traditional c-store and a fresh food supermarket, while also offering a broad range of food-to-go options. With grocery ecommerce also picking up pace, see how this format could also be an important element of Walmart’s multichannel future.
