Major London-focused cash & carry wholesaler, Dhamecha has acquired the Leyton depot originally operated by former competitor TRS Wholesale and currently owned by Vibrant Foods. This will bring Dhamecha’s depot estate to 10 sites, with eight located in outer London areas encircling the capital. The two non-London depots are located in the Midlands, in Leicester and Birmingham.
To be refurbished before reopening
Having traded as TRS International Foods, the Leyton depot opened in 1983 and was acquired as part of the purchase of the wider TRS business in 2019 by private equity investor Exponent, which then went on to acquire East End Foods later the same year. On completion of the acquisition of the depot by Dhamecha it will be closed for several months for refurbishment before reopening later in 2021 under the Dhamecha banner. As an area of dense commercial use the Leyton site sits within a significant cash & carry ‘hotspot’, with notable numbers of national and local competitors nearby. Key to Dhamecha’s success here will be retaining existing customers as well as attracting new ones with its strong reputation for availability and value.
Disposal of cash & carry leaves Vibrant to focus on ‘world foods’
Vibrant Foods is the business that has brought together the processing businesses of End Foods and TRS, both specialists in south Asian food products, to establish a portfolio of world foods brands targeting growth in this developing category. Both East End and TRS also had well-established cash & carry operations, considered non-core to Vibrant. Having sold the East End cash & carry’s back to the Wouhra family, this disposal of the TRS Leyton site represents another step away for Vibrant from the heritage of its business from that of wholesaler to independent retailers and caterers and towards that of a brand-specialist supplier targeting national retail chains.
Pradip Dhamecha, Chief Executive, Dhamecha commented:
‘As we expand our footprint we will continue to build on our reputation for excellent service, competitive pricing and great stock availability. We look forward to working closely with all our customers, suppliers and our loyal colleagues. As part of the acquisition of the new depot, we are also delighted that we will be able to provide a good selection of TRS and East End branded products in our depots. This reinforces our core principle of providing a comprehensive product range to our customers.’
