It has been revealed that Sainsbury’s is to stop supplying any B2B customers with a wholesaling service, as it seeks to return focus to its core supermarkets business. The most notable customer affected is the symbol group Simply Fresh, which has successfully transitioned five of its independent retailer members to its ‘supplied by Sainsbury’s’ model since it was launched in January 2020. It seems likely that these stores will return to supply from Nisa under the deal that other Simply Fresh stores have with its part-owner, Costcutter.
This latest update of IGD’s unique wholesaling dataset seeks to measure the profound impacts affecting the sector in 2020 as well as tracking the key changes occurring in the channel such as the adoption of online/electronic ordering and the shift into delivery service.
